For the past year one of my wonderful invitation designers, Amy Arndt of Alice Louise Press, and I have been talking about creating a custom line of invitations that would feature Seattle land marks. After a fun time going back and forth with design ideas and discussions we finally put the finishing touches on the new Seattle Skyline suite yesterday. These designs are completely customizable to your wedding or event, and they feature everything from the old (Smith tower) to the newest, the Seattle Grand Ferris Wheel, due to open on Seattle's waterfront in the next couple of weeks. I think we're the first to have an invitation line with Seattle's new ferris wheel on it, so that's exciting!
As you can see we also have a Seattle ferry boat, the Pike Place Public Market sign, and what Seattle themed invitation suite would be complete without the Space Needle, especially when it's celebrating its 50th anniversary?
These designs are shown with kraft and moss colored envelopes, and moss green and chocolate ink colors, keeping the color scheme to the natural in honor of the Pacific Northwest. They are available as letterpress or digitally printed creations. And yes, you can change inks, papers, fonts, paper shape and size - anything your heart desires. Need more pieces and want to add some landmarks? No problem! To create your own set of Seattle Skyline invitations just contact Paper Passionista at 206.909.9567 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Photo from "Two Paper Dolls"
National Stationery Show 2012 was another good one, and Paper Passionista has spent all week combing the aisles for "buried treasures". We've had a great time touching base with our current lines, and ordering new offerings from many of them: William Arthur, bt elements, Checkerboard, Designers Fine Press, Spark Letterpress Love, and AR-EN Party Printers. Then each year we also make some new finds, and this year was no exception. Be on the lookout for the arrival of new launches from our current lines, and the introduction of two new lines, Two Paper Dolls letterpress wedding invitations, and Jenn Sprinkle digital wedding and party invitations. These new discoveries will arrive over the next few months, and we'll keep you posted when they get here.

Paper Passionista has one drug of choice: STATIONERY!!! And this coming weekend is when we make our annual trek to New York, NY for the National Stationery Show (NSS) where the "buys" happen. For the sixteenth year in a row we will be combing the aisles of the Javits Convention Center for three full days at this wonderful trade show. 800 different booths will be available for stationers from all over the world (over 11,000 in attendance) to peruse and purchase fabulous finds to share with their clients back home. PURE STATIONERY HEAVEN!!!!
I'll be blogging from the show, connecting with friends from around the country, including Elaine Barker of Paper Potpourri in Haverhill, MA, Brian Lawrence of Local Traffic Builder (formerly of Encore Studios), New Jersey, Melinda and David Morris of Lion in the Sun, Brooklyn, NY (Park Slope), our newest industry friend, Amy Tan of Tree Space Studio, Sherman Oaks, CA, and of course shopping for new line treasures to bring on board with Paper Passionista. Each year brings some special new finds that you don't run into anywhere else, and for smaller "boutique" lines you have to jump at the chance because with the expense involved to be in the show there's never a guarantee the same vendors will be back the following year - last year's wonderful small lines we added that won't be there this year included Plum Blossom Press of Staten Island, NY, and Alice Louise Press of NW Ohio, so we're thankful we go every year so we don't miss the chance to catch these one-time-only opportunities.
We also look forward to visiting our friends in booths of some of our lines which make regular or repeat appearances at the show, including William Arthur, bt elements, Designers Fine Press, Elum, Smock, Bella Figura, Marsupial, Checkerboard, Spark Letterpress Love, and Oblation. This is our once a year opportunity to check in face-to-face with the great allies we work closely with all year long, but only get to see once a year. We also get to see our friendly wholesale printers, Laura Marr Printing, and thank them for the great work they do for us all year on our custom designs, including our brand new Paper Passionista letterpress business cards. Since I'm a member of the editorial advisory board for Stationery Trends magazine, I also look forward to seeing and visiting with Sarah Schwartz, editor of the magazine. NSS is just like a really big "family reunion" where you welcome new family members, and miss the ones who couldn't attend!
If you are looking for something special in the stationery world, whether you're a bride or social event host, and want us to be on the lookout for just the right thing for your special occasion please let us know your wish list. And if you're a stationery or event industry colleague and just can't make it to the show we're happy to pick up catalogs or anything else you want us to keep an eye out for. Just think of us as your stationery personal shopper. Stay tuned for more details next week as we experience the "highs" from National Stationery Show!

Paper Passionista continues to be proud and amazed at our socially conscious invitation line, Bella Figura. Our last post was about this company, and now here they go again!! These folks (and their counterparts with SMOCK) are always finding clever ways to reward those who do good for our world and the environment. Their latest way to receive a reward is just by doing good. Please feel free to visit their website for more ideas on how you can receive a reward of 25 free invitations with the purchase of 50. Even better, they're having a contest on their Pinterest board, and one lucky "do gooder" couple will receive their entire invitation ensemble for free! Here are the details:

Where does the time go? Can't believe the Paper Passionista has been absent from posting for two weeks! With busy schedules and a trip to Oregon for a family reunion over the 4th of July holiday it seems the first half of July nearly escaped me. But, I couldn't let any more time pass without letting you know about the arrival of the wonderful Smock line of invitations. Two albums of beautiful eco-friendly letterpress invitations have arrived and they're beautiful! Smock, and its sister line, Bella Figura, (discussed in my previous post) are both meticulously created in Syracuse, NY in an incredibly eco-friendly print shop that is entirely wind powered. Smock is the first company in the US to make their paper and envelopes from bamboo because bamboo is a sustainable resource. To quote Smock's website, "It’s the fastest growing plant on this planet and grown without pesticides or fertilizers. Bamboo also makes (hands down) the prettiest paper out there." Also, a percentage of every single order is donated to eco-friendly charities. Kudos to Smock for helping take care of our planet!
The environment isn't the only thing Smock helps conserve on. With each order they provide free 3-day shipping, free proofs (the first two versions), and 10% extra mailing envelopes free. Smock and Bella Figura are the only two lines I have found that offer these amazing benefits. All of this, combined with beautiful artistry in their designs, make Smock a front runner in the invitation and stationery industry. Think of Smock when you need invitations and stationery for all occasions. They have custom holiday cards and invitations too.
Smock's creative director and designer, Amy Graham Stigler
How do you get to see these beautiful Smock invitations? Just give Paper Passionista a call at 206.909.9567 to set up your consultation appointment. Or you can email email@example.com. Check out a lot more of the Smock designs on our Paper Passionista Facebook page.

I announced a couple weeks ago that the beautiful letterpress invitation line, Bella Figura, would be arriving at Paper Passionista soon. Now the time has come, and I wanted to share with you what is so special about the company that produces both the Bella Figura line, as well as her sister company, Smock. Here is some information straight off their website that I find admirable and thought you'd like to know what makes them special. Enjoy the read, and then you can visit our Paper Passionista Facebook page to see the new photo album of a lot of the Bella Figura designs.
At Bella Figura, we print the old-fashioned way, using antique cast-iron presses, the best paper, time, patience, perfection, and a whole lot of love. Here’s what makes our real artisan letterpress shop special.
Now that's a promise we can all appreciate, and Paper Passionista hopes to always do the same for you so we're looking forward to being teammates with Bella Figura.
For the three weeks since coming home from National Stationery Show, Paper Passionista has been unable to get one more fabulous line of invitations out of mind: Bella Figura. I had done my shopping at stationery show making myself stick to a strict budget, so I'd decided I'd have to keep Bella Figura on my wish list until next year. But, I finally got pushed off the edge when someone called yesterday inquiring about their "dream" art deco styled invitation. When they sent me a photo of what they wanted, what to my wondering eyes should appear? One of the fabulous Bella Figura invitations I'd been looking at in New York. OK, this was a clear sign that I'd better not ignore these feelings of longing, and get on the ball and order these invitations before the parade passes by!
Bella Figura is a great line of letterpress invitations, and they're the sister company of Smock who is also soon to arrive at Paper Passionista. Today I pulled the trigger, so stay tuned for word Bella Figura is here, but don't be shy about setting up your appointment now to order Bella Figura invitations. The nice people at Bella Figura are so accommodating that if you need something before my album arrives they'll send samples out for our consultation and you'll be able to see, touch & feel them in person. SOOOO much better than ordering online!
This announcement is to demonstrate that budgets, just like rules, are made to be broken!! When you fall in love sometimes you just have to answer the call. Cheers!
After six wonderfully productive days in New York at the National Stationery Show, Paper Passionista is headed back to Seattle this evening. This was our fifteenth year in a row of attending this fabulous show, and as always we found some wonderful treasures to bring back to share with our clientele and the event planners who refer them to us.
Most of our new offerings won't arrive at Paper Passionista headquarters until June, but we wanted to give a sneak peak of the designer invitation lines we have coming. They are:
Plum Blossom Press, a wonderful new letterpress invitation line located in Staten Island, NY. The husband and wife team, Erica and Matthew, who own this company are, just like my hubby and myself, very passionate about what they do. They were a delight to meet and we feel confident they are very committed to providing the best design and quality, along with attention to keeping the customer happy. We love them, and know you will too. I'm particularly excited about the invitations they do on cork - they will be so perfect for all the Weddings in Woodinville clients and others we work with doing winery themed weddings. See below (ignore the molding in the upper corners of the photo - we shot this of their display at the show).
Alice Louise Press, located in Northwest Ohio, is another great line we came across. Its owner, Amy, named the company after her grandmother because she taught Amy everything to get her inspired to be a printer in the paper world. This story was so similar to my own inspiration from my grandmother that Amy and I made an instant connection. Amy has had her invitation company since 2005, and offers her lovely nature-inspired designs in both letterpress and offset printing. Amy is herself about to be a bride on June 11, 2011 and we had the pleasure of meeting her fiance' who was helping her in her stationery show booth. They are both delightful. Amy says my Alice Louise Press albums are shipping on 5/31/11 so these should be the first to arrive.
Smock Paper will finally be finding a home with Paper Passionista. Smock's home is in Syracuse, NY, and they've been making quite a name for themselves in the letterpress invitation and stationery world. We've been keeping an eye on their growth and are very impressed with their eye for using lots of great bright colors in their designs. We know you'll enjoy their designs too, and look forward to welcoming them aboard. We will be featuring two albums full of their wedding designs, all of which are easily adaptible for other occasions as well. Their luscious paper is crafted from bamboo, making it a favorite among those who are looking for "green" invitations. Also notable is the beautiful use of patterning on the backside of the invitation as an optional add-on for their designs, as shown below.
Paper Passionista is also pleased to be expanding options with several of our current designers. We will have new collections arriving from William Arthur, Wiley Valentine, Dauphine Press, Checkerboard and Tag & Company. I'm particularly excited about Checkerboard's introduction of a design library, with ribbon and paper swatches and much more, which will be usable for all of the albums in their line. I've been begging them for this for several years and it's finally happening, so kudos to them for listening!
Until next year, thanks for your hospitality New York. It's been a great week!
